CHARLOTTE -- The Chicago White Sox promoted right-handed pitcher Dylan Covey this afternoon, the club announced Monday.
Covey had appeared in five games for the Charlotte Knights (White Sox Triple-A affiliate), where he posted a 0-0 mark with a 2.51 ERA.
The move comes less than 24 hours after elbow and shoulder problems landed right handed pitchers, Nate Jones and Ryan Burr, on the injured list.
Covey started 27 games for Chicago last season, making 21 starts and finishing with a record 5-14 and an ERA of 5.18.
The 27-year-old made the Sox opening day roster but was then optioned to the Charlotte Knights on April 3.
Covey’s promotion means that seven Knights players have been promoted to the team’s parent club since the season began.
