Karl Visits Hornets Practice

CHARLOTTE -- The Hornets welcomed NBA coaching legend George Karl to practice on Tuesday.

"It's an honor to have him in our gym," said coach James Borrego."One of the best coaches we've had in our game."

Karl is one of nine coaches to have won 1,000 games and never won a championship. He played at the University of North Carolina for three years and was drafted in the fourth round of 1973 NBA draft by the New York Knicks but opted to sign with the ABA's San Antonio Spurs.

"He was at the head of what we're seeing today in the NBA," Borrego said. "He liked to space the floor out, play with a lot of pace, put a lot of shooting on the floor, get to the rim."

Borrego spent several minutes alone with Karl after practice talking about his team's roster and their style of play.

"It's always an advantage for a first year head coach to get knowledge like that," said Borrego.

The Hornets travel to Dallas on Friday to wrap up their preseason schedule with the Mavericks.
