Incidental Contact Won't Be Penalized
NEW YORK -- The NFL said incidental contact will not be penalized after saying no changes will be made to the controversial helmet Wednesday.
The league also stated instant replay use will not be instituted for calls made for helmet violations.
Troy Vincent, football opierations chief, said a review was conducted using the feedback from the last two weeks of preseason.
"The committee also determined that inadvertent or incidental contact with the helmet and/or facemask is not a foul,” Vincent said.
Players who have publicly reacted to the rule believe it prohibits lowering the helmet to make contact anywhere on an opponent.
Players also believe that officials can’t be consistent whistling such penalties.
