CHARLOTTE--Panthers first-round draft pick, Brian Burns, didn't hesitate when asked who he dreamed of wrapping up with a big sack during his introductory press conference at Bank of America Stadium on Friday.

"Tom. You just go to go for the GOAT," Burns said. A reporter was quick to remind him that the Panthers play the Patriots in the third preseason game to which the rookie replied,"He's not gonna play in that."

Burns signed with Florida State as a five-star recruit. He made an immediate impact with 9.5 sacks, the most sacks as a freshman in more than three decades. Whether he'll make an immediate impact here in Charlotte is anybody's guess.

"He's going to get bigger and stronger," said general manager, Marty Hurney. "You can't coach some of the traits he has."

The Panthers were nearly on the wrong end of history last season losing seven of its last eight games after starting 6-2. Burns said he's no stranger to adversity having struggled his final two seasons in Tallahassee.

"This guy (Brian Burns) has a huge ceiling," said Hurney.
